DQI is a consulting and training firm specializing in helping leaders in organizations of all sizes make, and cause others to make, better decisions. That’s the "elevator" pitch.

There is lots more about us on the core website. In fact, you can get lost in the amount of content tucked away there. But you’re here, so ether some search engine landed you here or you’re vaguely interested in the more stream-of-consciousness view of things typical of blogs.

Our blog is written by Kevin Hoffberg. Kevin, me, blogs in lots of places, but the purpose here is to poke and prod at stories that might have a lesson to teach about decision making. Mostly the stories seem to be examples of what not to do. Sadly, that’s how most of us learn: From our own experiences, particularly the kind that produce results we weren’t expecting. Nothing like a good pinch or kick to get our attention!

So much of what’s visible and discusable in a forum like this comes from either the public sector or the world of public companies. But this is not meant to be a "political" blog, nor is it specifically a business blog . . . though we work with lots of businesses. Like I said, it’s just where the good stories seem to come from (from there is where the stories come).

This is also a place where we opine more generally about decision making and what goes into doing it in a high quality way. We actually use those words . . . decisions aren’t good or bad per se. The process you follow may have been high or low quality. But the decision is just a decision.

And then there are the results. Again, results are just results. Outcomes are just outcomes. The drama shows up in how we feel about them.

So, while the drama is interesting, and it does make for good story telling, we’re here because we’re interested in helping people learn how to do a high quality job of making a decision that will have a higher probability of generating the results they’re hoping for.

That’s why we’re here, and that’s why we blog.
